Your story, your memories, our passion

what a wedding weekend

What a rush! There’s definitely something awesome to be said when you get to work a job that is just energized with fun from start to finish. I don’t even tend to notice the night is winding down when the newlyweds and friends are having a blast. It’s contagious energy that gets me wired and shooting till it’s time to go.

We had a blast with Mathew and Katie on Friday. I knew Mathew from junior high and one of his groomsmen I knew since the guy was in k5 with my sis. We dodged rain clouds after the ceremony at Notre Dame but Mathew and Katie were such awesome sports and walked out in the rain a little. Nothing stopped them! Mathew even propped me an umbrella so I could shoot some photos of Katie and her bridesmaids on the Saint Mary’s campus. There was no dismay from the rain, and the soft light and faded contrast always make for primo portrait lighting, and we loved it all!

We wound the evening down with family and friends at Windsor Park and even though the ground was dampened, spirits were soaring in the celebration.

Saturday was a day of familiar flashbacks. Sara and I met with Katie and Andy back in September 2006 for their engagement shoot and dodged rain clouds in Michigan City while running back from the lighthouse pier and park gazebo. We got to hang out over a leisurely (read: took ages to serve) dinner while we dried off. One thing I love about meeting new couples is that we’ve gained tons of new friends through our photography.

Aside from sharing a first name with our Friday bride, Katie (Marklevitz) had arranged to book the same florist, bakery, church and reception venue! (We were thrilled to be another common thread for both our Katie brides this weekend.)

We got to hang out with Katie and her bridesmaid early Saturday as they got ready. Much thanks to Matron of Honor Missy’s mom for the breakfast and coffee to get our day started right – it was a lifesaver this weekend after I forgot my coffee at home scurrying out the door!

The couple married at the Basilica where Katie’s parents married years ago. The priest who married her parents also officiated for their daughter – what an honor to share in a family’s celebrations for parents and children!

Saturday was a drier day and we made our way downtown to the East Race river edge for some portraits and off to The Pub for a midday break before the reception. Once at the reception, the celebration kicked into high gear to wrap up this amazing day.

For both our weekend newlywed couples, an immense thanks for including us for your unforgettable days. It was an extended celebration for us with two amazing couples, stories, and welcoming families.

What a fun read! I will have to print this for our memories! Your words took me back to Andy’s and my wonderful day almost as vividly as your pictures have. I can’t wait to see the coffee-table book and order some prints!!!
