So beat prepping for Art Beat

For the last two weeks it has felt like the night before final exams getting ideas and prints together for Art Beat. Today didn't help that one bit. It only added MORE instant favorite shots to choose from before 4pm tomorrow. We started at hair & makeup around 11am, shot through 6pm, hung out till 9pm and it's been one rush →

New Nikon D300 – Test Photos

Yep, the Nikon D300 passed the test - it can capture baby cuteness. Rainy mornings are perfect for baby snuggles and photos. Our little camera ham :) CLASSIC Sara expression!

Family First

A man should never neglect his family for business. -Walt Disney I couldn't agree more with the Mousekateer. Having a home office and a 6 month old both at home is tricky to be sure I put adequate time into work matters and make sure I don't miss out on fun with Adrian. Friday after dinner the phones and email →

How do you see it?

This came across the wire on my daily quotes of the iGoogle homepage. Something to think about. Too many people are thinking of security instead of opportunity. They seem more afraid of life than death. - James F. Byrnes How do you see risks?

Three Travelers – Thursday Thoughts

Tuesday I shared conversations with three good friends all hitting the road via different vehicles and heading all different directions. While all three know each other, they were probably unaware of each others' travel plans and stories, at least till it sparked in dinner on the deck The only traveler of the three not currently in Indiana is packing up in →

The Art of Contentment

One of my talented artist friends Phil posted this and I wanted to detour from photo news to include some thoughts on the Art of contentment. Enjoy. The Art of Contentment "For most of us, being single will be more of a phase than a final destination. This is the best place to practice the art of contentment. Someday, I'm sure →

Drobo arigato, data roboto

Last week we added some robotics to the office to back up thousands of photographs while we aren't looking / are working / taking care of Adrian. After a long debate, mostly of internal monologue arguments, I decided to try the Drobo, a "data storage robot." (Cool photo, not even mine) Currently it's doing it's robot work with 2 500gb Western Digital →

Guestbook Album Design – Tim and Jaclyn

Ever since we began including an Engagement Session in our Memoirs Photography Packages it's been a busy summer snapping on location with our awesome couples. We've had too much fun to limit it to just one package so now ALL our Wedding Photography Packages INCLUDE an Engagement Session! I'd like to sidetrack for a sec - a COMPLIMENTARY ENGAGEMENT SESSION!?! →

Love, sweat and tears

Justin and Amanda share a kiss before heading to the reception

Love, sweat, and tears - these were the three main elements of this weekend's wedding photography. "The greatest of these," to quote Saint Paul, "is love." Friday I joined Matt of Zeta-Alpha Studios for one of the most joyfully tearful celebrations I've seen as Lauren and Joel celebrated their wedding at Saint Patrick's Church here in South Bend. Before the ceremony I →

Under the hood

Not that long back I got the Action Blazer's front brakes replaced and an oil change, and it rides like new as 1994 again. Today I changed out a thermostat on Sara's car. I couldn't remember ever inspecting or changing the air filter and it's an easy one so I took it out. Usually you can see some light through →

the Kiddo crawls!

Before the afternoon humidity set in I was walking around the house opening windows to let the nice breeze circulate when I got inspired to decorate. Ok, just to put up the top frilly part over the curtains in the baby room. It's as close to decorating as I get for now. I brought Adrian upstairs to play in his crib →

Stites Family Portraits

Bartering - a favorite form of trade amongst small businesses and entrepreneurs. My brother in law Dennis and his family own J&M Auto in South Bend and have helped keep our cars running well over the years. Last year we traded some maintenance for a family portrait session and this summer we finally got everyone together for the shoot. When we →

Miriam’s Senior Session

Congrats, Miriam! It's amazing to see the youngest students of my 2002-2003 drama class now getting ready for graduation day. I was proud of them back then for all the hard work they put into our (elective) class, and Sara and I are even more proud as they get ready to celebrate all their hard work throughout high school. The most →

Easter last weekend

I didn't say much about it when it was here, but Easter came to mind now that my sis is back in Missouri and it seems like things have slowed down here at the Bu home. I spent most of the Saturday before Easter at the blue lake cottage where my dad's family has met for holidays, birthdays and laughs ever →

so you think you can dance?

I know I can't. I have video proof of Sara and me swaying, swirling and - for lack of better terms - duck walking through our wedding's first dance. But it fit us - awkward, funny, and trying. Really, it fit us perfectly. At the risk of our adorable son overtaking this blog - and you know photos of him sure →

Best Superbowl EVER

There was a football game today? I heard either the last minutes or the highlights reel while I walked to the nurse’s station and remembered it was both Sunday and the day of the big game. I saw a few friends had posted bulletins about the game but I didn’t mind missing it. It was a busy week and we →

Sara and I got to celebrate our first anniversary and begin planning for the newest member of our family. Old friends in and out of town from Oregon, Michigan, Japan, →

snow baby

Baby Bu arrives in less than 5 weeks!

where credit is due

In a few hours this morning I was able to update a project that has been on my to-do list for as long as I've had this site running - get a blog INSIDE the ebphotography.com domain. (Fancy words for NOT a myspace / xanga / blogspot page like I've used in postingss past.) One of the best things about the →

familiar f-word… film!

I love eBay shopping. Random, unpredictable, spontaneous, competitive shopping. After getting a gem of a low tech camera - the Holga - I looked around on eBay for expired film. Wacky color shifts and even more unpredictable photo outcome. Here's a sampling of the slide and print film from the mid 1990s that should have some fun outcome! In the mean →

just like mom used to make

Ah, nothing starts the day like a cup of coffee. Frozen, in this case. A mocha-latte-frappa-whatsit simplified. Make 2 cups coffee, turn off pot and let it cool. Pour into wide mouth powerade bottle, add a good squeeze of chocolate syrup, and top off with milk. SHAKE. Then pop it in the freezer. Wake up time. Get your caffeinated ice bullet out and →

used cars, biz cards, and thoughts on marketing

I'm no marketing major. I've answered the phone for and heard stories about my dad's small business for most all my life. He never advertised but let a good reputation and lots of word of mouth keep bringing customers to him even during slow winter months. Those of you who have met with me and my wife Sara you know undoubtedly →
