Near the end of April I joined our goddaughter Marissa and her prom date / cohort in theatrical crime Quin for portraits before Mishawaka High School’s prom night. (Shameless plug, they’re playing lead roles this weekend on stage in Aladdin! Go see it!)

And to the guys, congrats to you! I have some pretty cool brother-in-laws who were brave enough to marry into our family AND take their lives in their own hands and smash (or threaten to smash) wedding cake on their brides. (My sisters deserve it!)

Emily planned a mix of heels to barefoot, jeans to sundress to skirt outfits for her sunny and windy afternoon outdoor shoot. I’m glad to have my subjects involved in the session and I love it when they throw out an idea and I get to make it happen for them. Especially if she was going to walk out on a submerged walkway in cold water or scale a slanted concrete outcropping in heels!

Here’s a peek at the album design for Katie and Brian’s June wedding day story. Their story started in Plymouth, Indiana with preparation and informal portraits at their parents’ homes. From there it was on to Saint Michael’s church to celebrate with the wedding ceremony. The newlyweds traveled north to South Bend for portraits downtown near the Morris Performing Arts’ fountain then around the corner to the Palais Royale ballroom for a wonderful evening reception full of live music, dancing and celebrating the night away.

They all just got served.

Melissa, Jim, and their bridal party just stepped it up a notch in the choreographed bridal party group dance department tonight. The newlyweds and the bride’s brother not only choreographed the dance moves for a crazy good dance routine… they mixed the dance tracks too. Snap! Clips from Ice Ice Baby, Hammer Time, The Hustle, N*Sync, Michael Jackson – especially Thriller – New Kids on the Block, Justin Timberlake and more than I can even remember right now… all sliced, diced, and remixed into a huge hit on the dance floor.

Great day for a mix of shirt-and-tie formal then t-shirt casual shots, riverside full sun to stone wall shade and natural light portraits. Always great when my subjects throw their ideas out there and I get to make some sharp photos for them, and Tyler did exactly that. Great to collaborate and personalize!

Happy 5th anniversary newlyweds Dianna & Brian! We get lots of compliments on the red trimmed wedding dress Dianna styled in her May 2006 wedding! Very vibrant day out on the greens at South Bend Country Club.

The newlyweds cut one of the first wedding cakes we photographed with custom topper (or middler) – a model of Brian’s Grand National used the lower tier for parking.

Did I mention we loved the red trimmed wedding dress the bride picked for the big day? The new Mr & Mrs out for a first dance sent it spinning!

Had a great breezy afternoon outdoor location session with Colton and his silver Ibanez 6-string electric guitar on Notre Dame University Campus a few weeks back. He started off strumming some favorites on the guitar while I set up and got to snapping some informal portraits of a musician in his element. Nothing like a little live music while you’re behind the camera.

Kristyn made a dramatic entrance to the landing of the grand staircase at the mansion. I always liked how the lines of the bannister and dark interior woodworking leads your eye right to the couple on the landing. Natural light from second story windows highlighted them wonderfully during the ceremony.

Outdoor portraits contrasted the deep colors of carved wood interior decor with the light stone arches on the mansion’s front entrance perfectly. No matter where the photos happened there was no shortage of smiles and great times!

Rumor has it there may be some 6 months portraits of their little boy appearing here soon!
