Monday I posted a handful of Beth and Jeff’s wedding previews from their Saturday wedding, still working on a write up blog post about all the fun after a triple-event weekend. (Notre Dame football away game weekends are off the hook!)

Beth’s note made my Monday, and I’ve just got to share it (with permission, of course!)

Hey Eric and Sara!

We are again completely amazed at your talent. Sara, you were so fantastic to be with the morning of. You helped to put my mind at ease and just blended in with the madness up in the room. Eric, I felt like the only time I saw you was when you sat down to have a quick bite to eat. How you manage to take such beautiful photos and remain so “invisible” I will never know! In any case, I LOVE THESE AND COULD NOT BE HAPPIER!

I think that’s some of the best compliments to hear – gaining an extra, helpful bridesmaid that jumps in the middle of the fun and a photo ninja that doesn’t get in the way or become visible till he eats. (I’ll trade a few minutes of ninja vanish for good food any day!) I remained “invisible” because there was nonstop fun to be had and I was there to tell the story, not direct it.

These guys aren’t new to enjoying our work – or busy weekends, for that matter! We met up for their engagement session on Memorial Day back in May just after I shot a morning and afternoon wedding. Sounds busy but their Engagement Session was the perfect wind-down to a busy holiday weekend. Jeff and I chatted about iPhone apps and fun and I knew they were driving back home to New York so I checked to be sure our proof gallery is iPhone friendly (it is!) before emailing them a link to it. Here’s the reply I got a few hours later -

Eric,

These look amazing! Thank you so much, you have a true talent. And thank you for checking (if the proof gallery could be viewed) on the iphone! We looked at them, on the iphone, at 5am, the moment we arrived home. With lack-of-sleep as the excuse, we’ll keep this email short. Thank you again, and we’ll be in touch. We can’t wait to share these!

We had a blast celebrating with Gena and Bob and their families out in the sands of Indiana Dunes yesterday. With the waves of Lake Michigan in the background and sand in our toes we gathered under the newlyweds’ favorite trees to witness their ceremony.

The record for quickest wedding ceremony I’ve photographed was set by Gena’s daughter Kristyn in 2007 in 7 minutes’ time. Sunday Gena and Bob broke the record in 3 minutes 12 seconds. (I checked the photo capture times to be sure it was the new record before announcing anything!)

Happy Labor Day weekend everybody, hope it was a great holiday!

It poured last Friday before an outdoor wedding and bride and groom Tessa & Jonny were chill the whole time. I don’t think I saw them worry about it once. When you’ve had an amazing love story like theirs come together from across oceans, a little rainfall is nothing to fret.

It rained, it poured, and we scurried to cover for the camera gear and tarped down all the audio gear for the ceremony… and the skies cleared.(Seriously, it was just after I committed to getting out the rain gear and shooting outside no matter what – bam – rain stopped!)

Top off the dry sky with a burst of sunlight and everything was set for a great evening wedding ceremony in the gardens!

Congrats Tessa & Jonny, a clear day wouldn’t have done as well to remind me how awesome of friends and clients I have. You guys didn’t even seem to blink at the rain outside while you prepared for your wonderful celebration. It was -in my best Irish accent- EXCELLENT to celebrate with you and your friends and family from Northern Ireland, UK, Philippines, Australia, California and across the USA!

Besides making puddles and rainbows, rainy shoots are great for

• Saturated colors, textures, and puddles to use for reflections!
• Rainbows! (none that I saw Saturday though)
• Very few people meandering campus!
• Kept things cool for the 11am mass when the evening was nothing short of sweltering!
• And of course, proving just how determined a couple is to enjoy their day regardless of weather!

It was no surprise that “A Touch of Whimsy” was their unofficial theme. You couldn’t have stopped Lauren and Andrew from smiling if you had tried!

The Morris Inn not only kept us very cool for the reception but the large windows provided magically diffused light throughout the room. It was like having a wall made out of softboxes (non-technical translation = very happy photographer!)
