Kodak Instamatic 104 – Monday Morning Redemption

Kodak INstamatic 104 outfit box set 1975

My dad's habit of finding quirky gifts strikes again. A crisp $1 bill got him this nifty Kodak Instamatic 104 Outfit box set at a garage sale. Sweet yellow Kodak box contains an Instamatic camera, unused flash cube, old AAA batteries and box from the last 126 cartridge that expired in May 1975 all stored inside. Now I've just got →

Just Married! Katie & Brian

Palais Royale ballroom South Bend Indiana wedding dance 01

Congrats newlyweds Katie & Brian! It finally feels like a summer weekend, and just in time for Katie & Brian's wedding celebration! We started off in Plymouth while everyone prepared then headed to Saint Michael's church where the newlyweds were married. After a drive north to South Bend it was time to celebrate the night away at the Palais Royale ballroom →

What are you (am I) waiting for? Shoot.

Sailing ship Jacksonville Florida 2001

"I need a newer/older / film/digital / manual/automatic camera/lens/computer first." This new year has been 3 days -and a few leading up to it last year- of kicks in the pants to get a camera and use it. Not a new one (wife sighs for relief) - one within reach. A phone if I have to. Create already. Reminders I find →

Photography Workflow Data Backup – Feed the Drobo

Drobo RAID Backup Drive

Just over 2 years ago I added a Drobo to our wedding photography workflow and backup strategy. (Read the original writeup here). I just fed it another pair of 1 terabyte hard drive this month and figured it would make a good time to share a review of its performance over the last 2 years of photography work and backup →

We had a blast celebrating with Diana and Roger for their summer wedding at Southgate Church in South Bend, Indiana. It's always a treat to join family friends for their wedding celebrations and see lots of familiar, smiling faces. Diana and Roger had the biggest smiles of all, what a great day for the newlyweds! Best Photography Tools

“The important thing is not the camera but the eye.” – Alfred Eisenstaedt To that I would follow with the words of Mark Twain, “You cannot depend on your eyes if your imagination is out of focus.” Read more: http://digital-photography-school.com/12-more-photography-quotes-you-should-know

Everything I ever learned about lighting…

Was probably from LEGOs and the Strobist blog. (Click the photo to see all the geeky comments on this super LEGO lighting rig.) It's fair to say I did learn something from my college courses with Craig Sheaks, and tinkering with Nikon's Creative Lighting System to get the flash and the light off the camera's hot shoe. I rigged and patched →

Love of the Irish – Notre Dame Basilica Weddings

Notre Dame Basilica Wedding Photography - Album Design

Happy Saint Patrick's Day! Now that it seems Spring is finally here in South Bend, Indiana, everything is greening up beautifully outside. Today, of course, it seems everyone is trying to do the same for Saint Pat's celebrations. (Of course, with the exception of my friend Joel who wore red in support of those with red/green color blindness.) What better time to →

Gallery Debut – Rescheduled to March 7th

We've rescheduled the Gallery Debut to Saturday, March 7th to make way for an even easier time for our out of town guests and friends to join us! It's been over 20 years in the making. Ever since 1988 when Eric picked up a 110 camera and wandered the neighborhood with camera in hand he's been snapping photos ever since. Unknown →

Zack Arias sums it up in video

"Johnny 5, now you are hitting the nail right between the eyes." Wow. I caught this video following Zack Arias' blog. For those of you outside the photography world, this week is the WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International) convention in Vegas. Yes, warm Vegas. Shiny, warm, not Indiana Vegas where rock star photographers show you shiny new books, cameras, software and →

the Storyline

Inspiration hits again, this time in the middle of an already inspired album design session. Our first newsletter went out on New Year's Day to kick off one of many new things happening at eB Photography.Above is the new banner and name for the letters to come: the Storyline. I'm all about a good story - that's why you'll find our →

Engagement Cards Anyone?

I put together a quick sample of our work for a friend of ours planning a summer 2009 wedding and thought I'd better share the summery favorites from last year's engagement sessions. Nice warm thoughts from the toasty beach shoots should warm up this odd weather December. The shoreline was definitely this year's favorite location - hard to beat working →

Congrats Amber & Phil

Saturday I spent the evening celebrating with Amber & Phil in Elkhart, Indiana a perfect end to an incredible year. This was the second December wedding I've celebrated with my friend Phil's family. Both at his brother Nathan's wedding in 2006 and his brother-in-law Phil's wedding yesterday it was above 50˚ outside at the end of December. Here's a favorite from →

First day of the best month

October is here at last. It was fall today, the way it should be. Cool weather not above 60˚ starting with some rain this morning. Golden sun and leaves beginning to fill the yard. Adrian wearing fuzzy warm clothes as he crawled and climbed all over the place. Hot cocoa and apple cider for breaks. I was driving to the Post Office →

Seeing Something Invisible

If you've looked at a photography magazine or seen any photo-centric websites or forums you know there's been a tidal wave of new digital SLR cameras flooding the lineup of already pretty awesome cameras out there. Newer, faster, shinier, a couple extra megapixels... it's crazy how quickly new cameras are being introduced! This summer it was time for us to retire →

Love, sweat and tears

Justin and Amanda share a kiss before heading to the reception

Love, sweat, and tears - these were the three main elements of this weekend's wedding photography. "The greatest of these," to quote Saint Paul, "is love." Friday I joined Matt of Zeta-Alpha Studios for one of the most joyfully tearful celebrations I've seen as Lauren and Joel celebrated their wedding at Saint Patrick's Church here in South Bend. Before the ceremony I →

Celebrating with Amanda and Justin

While we're out celebrating with Amanda and Justin, enjoy some of our favorites from their Engagement Session earlier this month! Form the Engagement Session there is a link to the wedding day gallery. Enjoy! Quiet moments On our way down the beach Justin saw this sand bar and he and Amanda were awesome sports and walked out into knee deep Lake Michigan →

It’s Contagious

Excitement! It could be adrenaline topped off with the remnants of a Starbucks tall (shortest cup) Americano I finished, but it's been 2+ hours since the coffee and Sara and I are talking about work and getting excited. When have I ever been able to say that after coming home from 12 hours at work - starting at 6am after 4 →

Congrats Bridget & Doug!

We celebrated a great wedding day with Bridget & Doug on Saturday. What a fantastic day with the Purdue and Ridell families celebrating at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart and taking an easygoing afternoon's portraits around the Notre Dame campus. (Huge thanks to the folks who let us all into the football stadium too!) Bridget and the ladies started off →

Katrina & Charley – a few more photos

I had to add a couple of instant favorites from Katrina & Charley's wedding last weekend. There's nothing better than celebrating with friends, old ones and all the new ones we just made! Katrina in the mirror - a new favorite by Sara Charley - what a guy. Just waiting to see his bride minutes before the ceremony... Katrina's smile said it all. →

Sunny Sunday Engagement Session

Sunday afternoon we rounded out a near perfect weekend of friends, fun and photography with Amanda and Justin at their engagement session at Weko Beach along Lake Michigan. I want to pass along a huge thanks to these two for being such great sports walking up dunes and into the not-quite-warm Lake for the photo session. I'm convinced that we'll make →

Congrats Katrina & Charley!

There's nothing like celebrating a wedding with long time friends! Last weekend we trucked up to Lansing, Michigan to celebrate with one of my longest-time friends Charley and his bride Katrina. I've known all the groomsmen and ushers at least 7 years if not longer, most closer to 20 years already. (And at a mere 28, that says LONG time →
