Lindsey and Alex – 10 Year Throwback Thursday

Disclaimer: This is what happens when I let my couples design their own engagement portrait session. Authenticity ahead.

Dropkick Murphys guitarist engagement portrait

Back in 2004, two of my most talented musician friends helped me expand my ideas of what Engagement Portraits were supposed to look like when they put aside their acoustic guitar and baby grand piano and stepped outside wearing black Dropkick Murphy’s shirts. This photo of Lindsey & Alex has sparked a conversation with each prospective client with whom I shared it and stirred many a portfolio reviewing professor. It’s still a favorite shot and a fond memory creating it for the newlyweds.

Then in May, 10 years ago today, they got married, and had a kid still learning what his camera’s buttons all did tell their wedding story. I was lucky enough to be that kid.

Fall, in Love – 10 Septembers Ago – Rose and Jeremiah

Today marks the first decade milestone for this photo hobby venture turned career move as I began telling wedding day stories through digital images and design. But enough about me…

Happy 10th Anniversary Rose & Jeremiah!

My slanted hip shot of the father of the bride and two groomsmen. I hoped to catch them candidly but the expressions, body language,  and camera tilt turned out an intimidating snapshot of this rather imposing trio.

(One serious time warp I noticed looking back 10 years is that while there are guests holding cameras as the bride enters, there are not swarms of illuminated phone, tablet, and small television sized screens at arm’s length capturing her every step to be tweeted, live streamed, and hashtagged. Those were the days…)

Happy Anniversary Mom & Dad!

On a sunny afternoon at Bendix Woods park, between the E and the R* of the pine trees that spell out “Studebaker,” my parents were married 35 years ago today.

Mom had a lovely dress and a bouquet of white and yellow flowers. Dad and the groomsmen had a snazzy white tuxedo, mom picked light yellow dresses and matching giant yellow sun hats for the bridesmaids. (Gonna have to get a bonus post to show off those stylish looks!)

Not sure if the next photo qualifies as their 1970s engagement portrait or not, but it’s still worth sharing.

* Fun fact – years later when I was born they gave me the same first and middle name initials as the tree letters they were married between – E.R. Also fun fact, Dad still tells that same story just about every time we drive by the park.

Happy anniversary! Here’s to 35 more and then some!

Congrats Christmas Couple Katie & Nathan

Happy 2nd Anniversary!

What an awesome first Christmas these two celebrated back in 2006, the same year as my first newlywed Christmas. This year as it’s single-digit temperatures we’re looking back on the nearly 50-degree wedding day we shared with Katie and Nathan to think warm thoughts as Christmas nears. (Is global warming on vacation or what?!)

Click the photo above of CLICK HERE to see the extended-play slideshow with music by friend and groomsman Skyler, as well as one of the most upbeat Christmas wedding recessional songs out there.

Enjoy!
