This spring and summer have been rich with celebrations, milestones, and joy. Last week we looked back a decade while marking an anniversary, today we go back 9 years for Katie & Mathew.
These are just a few of my favorite images and moments from their beautiful ceremony at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart.
Katie and Mathew’s smiles say it all when they saw each other during Katie’s procession to the altar.
Despite storms brewing outside the Lady Chapel had a beautiful glow during their wedding ceremony.
The newlyweds beaming all the way down the aisle, brighter than July sunlight. The summer storms outside could not dampen their spirits.
And this, friends, is a key part I believe we all need for successful relationships. To realize life will not always be perfect, that rain will fall, and you’ve got to make the best of each moment. When life gives you thunderstorms and humid haze, you have a choice: You can run for cover or… go make diffused light portraits.
We made a short drive from Notre Dame to Saint Mary’s College for bridal party portraits under ivy covered arched walkways.
There’s nothing wrong with wanting to stay dry, stay cool, and wait for sunny skies. There is something to be admired about couples who are determined to make the best of each moment, together, and will go out in the rain and weather the storms. Once these storms have passed may you look back on ordinary moments that become an extraordinary story together.
Even in a puddle reflection portrait the bride and groom were full of smiles throughout their wedding celebration!
Congrats, Katie & Mathew!
Who says rain on your wedding day is bad news? I loved the things the rain did for photos of Lauren and Andrew’s wedding at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on Notre Dame Campus. Andrew and the gents walked from the Morris Inn on campus to the Basilica and the sprinkle was no match for the determined groomsmen.
Besides making puddles and rainbows, rainy shoots are great for
- Saturated colors, textures, and puddles to use for reflections!
- Rainbows! (none that I saw Saturday though)
- Very few people meandering campus!
- Kept things cool for the 11am mass when the evening was nothing short of sweltering!
- And of course, proving just how determined a couple is to enjoy their day regardless of weather!
It was no surprise that “A Touch of Whimsy” was their unofficial theme. You couldn’t have stopped Lauren and Andrew from smiling if you had tried!

Perfectly refreshing breeze sends the veil flying outside the Golden Dome 🙂
The Morris Inn not only kept us very cool for the reception but the large windows provided magically diffused light throughout the room. It was like having a wall made out of softboxes (non-technical translation = very happy photographer!)
Beaming Bride and Groom share a first dance.
Congrats Lauren & Andrew! Go enjoy that Honeymoon!
This morning before his wedding at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Andrew and his groomsmen were cracking up about Twitter and “tweeting” about everything during the wedding.
So I did.

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!
Now that it seems Spring is finally here in South Bend, Indiana, everything is greening up beautifully outside. Today, of course, it seems everyone is trying to do the same for Saint Pat’s celebrations. (Of course, with the exception of my friend Joel who wore red in support of those with red/green color blindness.)
What better time to celebrate Irish heritage than with our favorite photos of the LOVE of the Irish?!

We celebrated a great wedding day with Bridget & Doug on Saturday. What a fantastic day with the Purdue and Ridell families celebrating at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart and taking an easygoing afternoon’s portraits around the Notre Dame campus. (Huge thanks to the folks who let us all into the football stadium too!)
