Here’s a peek at the album design for Katie and Brian’s June wedding day story. Their story started in Plymouth, Indiana with preparation and informal portraits at their parents’ homes. From there it was on to Saint Michael’s church to celebrate with the wedding ceremony. The newlyweds traveled north to South Bend for portraits downtown near the Morris Performing Arts’ fountain then around the corner to the Palais Royale ballroom for a wonderful evening reception full of live music, dancing and celebrating the night away.

Happy Anniversary Mom & Dad!
On a sunny afternoon at Bendix Woods park, between the E and the R* of the pine trees that spell out “Studebaker,” my parents were married 35 years ago today.
Mom had a lovely dress and a bouquet of white and yellow flowers. Dad and the groomsmen had a snazzy white tuxedo, mom picked light yellow dresses and matching giant yellow sun hats for the bridesmaids. (Gonna have to get a bonus post to show off those stylish looks!)
Not sure if the next photo qualifies as their 1970s engagement portrait or not, but it’s still worth sharing.
* Fun fact – years later when I was born they gave me the same first and middle name initials as the tree letters they were married between – E.R. Also fun fact, Dad still tells that same story just about every time we drive by the park.
Happy anniversary! Here’s to 35 more and then some!
Congrats newlyweds Katie & Brian!
It finally feels like a summer weekend, and just in time for Katie & Brian’s wedding celebration! We started off in Plymouth while everyone prepared then headed to Saint Michael’s church where the newlyweds were married. After a drive north to South Bend it was time to celebrate the night away at the Palais Royale ballroom downtown.
Thanks to the Sikorski & Nifong families for inviting us to join your celebration and tell Katie & Brian’s wedding day story!

Happy 5th anniversary newlyweds Dianna & Brian! We get lots of compliments on the red trimmed wedding dress Dianna styled in her May 2006 wedding! Very vibrant day out on the greens at South Bend Country Club.
The newlyweds cut one of the first wedding cakes we photographed with custom topper (or middler) – a model of Brian’s Grand National used the lower tier for parking.
Did I mention we loved the red trimmed wedding dress the bride picked for the big day? 😀 The new Mr & Mrs out for a first dance sent it spinning!
Happy anniversary and a flashback from 4 years ago of Kristyn and Patrick’s spring wedding at Tippecanoe Place here in South Bend. It was a great celebration at the old Studebaker mansion in the historic district downtown. Enjoy some of our favorites from the celebration!
Kristyn made a dramatic entrance to the landing of the grand staircase at the mansion. I always liked how the lines of the bannister and dark interior woodworking leads your eye right to the couple on the landing. Natural light from second story windows highlighted them wonderfully during the ceremony.
Outdoor portraits contrasted the deep colors of carved wood interior decor with the light stone arches on the mansion’s front entrance perfectly. No matter where the photos happened there was no shortage of smiles and great times!
Rumor has it there may be some 6 months portraits of their little boy appearing here soon!
Congrats again, newlyweds!
Last night I dropped by Generic in downtown South Bend to catch Analecta play a live set. Decided to play with my Nikon D700’s high ISO settings in low light. I positioned myself in an open spot across from most of the moving lighting where pretty much all the light was above and behind the bassist up front. It would make your eyes crazy after a few minutes, not to mention mess with a camera’s autofocus. Perfect spot for test shots. The D700 locked focus excellently even in very harsh backlight on top of all the less-than-ideal setings. Seriously – concert lighting is rarely rigged for photography, which makes it all the more fun to find and make good shots in dodgy lighting.
Nikon D700 with 24mm lens. ISO 3200, 1/25th sec @ f/2.8
10.5mm f/2.8 fisheye lens – 1/4 sec exposure at f/3.5 to burn in some of the color. Not even the black ceiling is that dark any more.

I started the weekend early celebrating a wedding at the Log Chapel on the Notre Dame University campus with the Haynes family. It was a great morning for a summer wedding ceremony! I’d like to share a few favorites before I head out to this evening’s photo festivities. Enjoy!
Daughter Victoria’s playful smile as vows and rings were exchanged
The Eucharist cup reflected its shadow in an interesting shape – a heart!
More photos to come from a weekend of many celebrations with the Haynes family!
We had a blast celebrating with Diana and Roger for their summer wedding at Southgate Church in South Bend, Indiana. It’s always a treat to join family friends for their wedding celebrations and see lots of familiar, smiling faces. Diana and Roger had the biggest smiles of all, what a great day for the newlyweds!
